I am still in shock and disbelief that you are no longer with us. I was your last MSc student, and I promise to carry forward your legacy and make you proud. I’ve been reading and rereading our last conversation on July 18th, you told me to start working on the article, and you assured me that you’d be back in a couple of weeks so we could meet. You left me waiting.
How do I even begin to recover from this? You were more than a supervisor you changed my life, reshaped my way of thinking, supported me endlessly, and even scolded me like an elder brother when I needed it.
You will always be remembered, Abel. Always.

As I arrived from Portugal, I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Abel Chemura. Though I did not know him personally very well, he was my teaching colleague, and I am moved by the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of kindness, brilliance, and dedication as his closer friends highlighted.
From those who knew him, it is evident that Dr. Chemura's presence was uplifting and that he inspired many through both his intellect and his humanity. The warmth and optimism he brought to his work and his relationships are qualities that will be dearly missed.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. My thoughts are with his family, loved ones, friends, and colleagues who now bear the heavy loss of someone truly remarkable, gone far too soon.

Yesterday, I stood in your empty office, staring at your desk. I desperately needed something tangible; I needed evidence, as I was still full of disbelief that you would not be there anymore. That we would not hear your sharp and witty remarks, your warm words, or your ambitious views in that office anymore. When we met a few weeks ago, your eyes and mind were bright as always. You spoke highly about the talented students and PhD candidates you were working with. You were thankful to your ITC colleagues who stepped in when you needed more time to get better. You were making plans for new projects, new research, new ways of making the lives of farmers and others better in this world. We will continue to feel the emptiness you left behind, but your legacy will live on. Thanks for all. Rest in peace.
