Dear Carol

So many lovely tributes have been written from all over the World about Jan "the man" and how much he was loved and respected.

We thought we would like to share a couple of photos of Jan "the boy". One is from 1983 at a rally in Vorden, where we first met Jan. He spent the weekend effortlessly switching between, Dutch, German and English, making us Highlanders feel so welcome. As you know, this very soon became a special friendship that lasted for well over 30 years. The other photo is from 1985, his first visit to a pub on the "Black Isle" with Andy P, Davie and Val.

On behalf of the Buzzards MCC, Scotland - especially Andy P, Davie & Val, Brookie & Mo, Del & Tracy, we are all so truly sad and send you ALL our LOVE.

Leider gehen die Guten immer zuerst. Lange Zeit schon kannten wir uns. Wir trafen uns oft auf den verschiedensten Motorrad-Treffen, oder auch einfach mal so, wenn Ihr in Deutschland in Eurem Häuschen in Jammelshofen wart. Es hat immer Spaß gemacht, mit Dir zu lachen, zu trinken, Motorrad zu fahren... Danke. Wir werden Dich nicht vergessen.

Unsere Gedanken sind bei Carol und Euren Familien.

It seems Jan had a habit of letting strange men stay in his Yuzhno apartment when he was away! Great memories drinking Baltica 5 in Yuzhno!

Jan frequently told me (and not just after a drink) how lucky he was to have the life he did, to be working for Shell and how far he had come from humble beginnings delivering letters on his bike around London.

Unassuming, generous and fun. Truth is I was the lucky one to have Jan as a friend and colleague. Will miss you mate!

I will remember you as an amiable and sincere colleague with a great sense of humor and willing to tell the inconvenient truth in cases you felt that things should be done differently. The news of your illness came in as a great shock but at the same time we were all in great admiration on the strength and determination you displayed to beat this illness. I can only say: the wrong team lost in this unfair battle.
To show your great sense of humor, you joined us at a colleague’s farewell party at Café de Halve Maan and you just had the results in if the illness had spread. You were very cheerful as it was positive news but you were more exited, as you put it: “Existence of brain was confirmed!”

My thoughts are with Carol, family and friends.

Dear Jan ,
We feel priviledged and honoured to have had you in our lives
You were a joy to be with and we share many times happy together , chatting , riding & of course partying.
We will miss the future without you in it , there will big a Huge gap without you.
One thing that always made me laugh was Your Laugh...oh what a laugh..contagious is how I describe it and of course that Fabulous smile of yours, cheeky with that mischievious lint in oyur eyes
We will treasure the times we shared .

Jan I first met you in Sakhalin where you had the kindness to lend me your apartment on Zima when you were on leave....and I remember the cleaners lost your underpants..which upset you greatly:) We worked in IM together for many years and spoke often. When I had to return to the UK leaving my family back in Malaysia you called me and told me you were ill...yet you also were concerned about my being lonely... I remember at the time thinking what a big hearted guy you were. A real gentleman...its was privilege to know you
