I had the good fortune to work with Pieter in Algeria and Siberia and remember him as a true gentleman always helpful to those working in his team. He will be sorely missed.

He was gentle and understanding with all of his colleagues, regardless of the age, race or nationality, he was humble, communicative and restless in educating others and sharing his knowledge and experience, curios to find and learn more from others, too. His human touch and positive energy makes him hard to forget.

We spent many a long hour discussing and contemplating contracts, E&P Forum guidelines and work in general when Pieter was based in London in the early/mid 90s. Pieter was a truly considerate individual, fair at all times and rarely ruffled - thoroughly professional and a kind person. My deepest sympathies.

Vanmorgen kreeg ik het schokkende nieuws dat Pieter Jan is overleden. Ik heb er bijna geen woorden voor. Jarenlang stond hij langs de kant van het zwembad om ons training te geven, altijd vol energie en positiviteit. Een man die voor iedereen klaar stond en waar ik een groot respect voor had.

As others have already said, Pieter will be remembered very fondly by many of us as a good colleague, mentor and above all friend. For me Pieter was always there with a smile and good humour, something ofen needed on dark days and long rotations in Atyrau.

I was lucky to have known Pieter and am deeply shocked by his passing.
